What is Tarot & How Does It Work?

“Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another“ ~ Albert Einstein

An open heart in an open mind is the secret to happiness. Open the door and let the Tarot guide you towards your best life.

Hello, this is Judith. I have been a lover of Tarot for many years. I am the author/artist of The Cook’s Tarot and co-producer of Dining With The Major Arcana recipe cards. I have studied and read the cards for many years. Now, with the help of Charlie the Psychic (not really) Dog, I am going to share my love and skills with you.

How Does It Work?

The tarot deck itself is just a tool. It has no inherent mystical or psychic properties. The magic comes when we can use this tool to access our subconscious minds. The images on the cards resonate differently with every situation. The card combinations combined with the questions we are asking trigger an intuitive response. This response allows the story to come forward, out of the unconscious mind into the tangible present. This is awareness. Once we have access to this we can plan and take action.

Making predictions on past, present and future events is an old-fashioned approach to tarot reading. It does nothing to empower the individual.

Connecting with the universal energy in order to access inner wisdom and create a path forward is modern day tarot. We are holding the cards up as a mirror that we can look into. We create the future by our actions and intentions.

The Tarot Deck

A tarot deck consists of 78 cards. It is comprised of two parts. The first 22 cards are the Major Arcana, “big secrets”. They depict the pivotal events in life. They speak to karmic and spiritual lessons to be learned. The next 56 cards represent the Minor Arcana. These create the storyboard of daily life.

These cards are further divided into suits that reflect the properties of the element associated with them, such as fire, water , earth and air. These cards are also numbered from 1 (the Ace) to 10, the final card in the suit. This adds a further layer of information that is available.
